When I opened the door I was surprised to see the wandering monk on the porch. Before I could say a word, Purcell's face popped like a Mardi Gras mask from the visitor's shaved head, and I heard his voice saying, "I didn't want to shock you by just walking in, and besides, I didn't have my key."
The banner the kids had been making saying "Welcome Home Dad" was spread out on the living room floor. As soon as he walked in the kids and dogs started jumping all over him, and he explained he'd been able to get an earlier flight from Edmonton.
Hailey and Bronson assumed that his shaved head and saffron robe were some sort of hospital garb. Only after the children went to bed was I able to get more detail out of him.
