Biography

But...who are we?

Purcell is my wonderful husband who seems to work all the time, either for his job or to make our family life more wonderful. As a consultant he travels constantly, and we miss him dearly, but since his specialty is "efficiency," he manages to be make good use of time at home.

Bronson, my smart and athletic fifth grader, is tow-headed, with a summer crew cut that is just starting to grow out. He has an annoying habit of squinting his eyes when there is no reason to squint. But at appropriate times, such as when he’s squinting into the sun on the baseball field, or outdoors on the playground during morning flag salute, he looks amazingly like George C. Scott playing General Patton.

Hailey, my fourth grader, has long, gently curling red hair. She’s a slender and pale little pixie. I really don’t mind that she sometimes likes to spell her name Haylee (it’s written that way in loopy script in purple gel pen on her black homework folder). Black and purple are her favorite colors. She pretty much wears them all the time.

Amber, the baby, is just sitting up at eight months old, and is just the doll of the family. She goes everywhere riding on my hip or in her batik baby sling, with hardly a cry or a hiccup. She has round green eyes and a shock of dark brown hair that stands up straight along the center of her scalp in a Mohawk. She is our little wise one, with her large, penetrating eyes like a girl on the cover of a V.C. Andrews paperback.

I am Louray Dovecote. I was named for both my parents, Louis and Rayna Galway. I was so happy to take the name Dovecote when I got married and stopped being Louray Galway.
